LL Rain has always been one of my favorites. In fact many times I've downloaded a show only because of the presence of this track.But...I've been looking for a particular version I heard out in the lot at the 93 Buffalo show. In this version a very emotional Bob sings something like "Rain Rain go away I can't take no more fu....ing pain today"I should've asked the guys in the car what show it was from but never did. Any help identifing this show or any other exceptional LL Rains would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance,
Phil

I am also a fan of this tune, particularly the way Jerry seems to latch into it with the octave pedals etc. Love the singing as well. I think my favorite version is 5-4-77. check it out. very emotional.

I don't know if this helps, but during 89 I know Bob improvised a good deal more with the lyrics, sort of like you said. 2-6-89 comes to mind, as well as another 89 show that I liked a bit more but i forget the date (maybe 10-23, charlotte). I love the feeling of a lot of summer shows from 89, like 5-6 at the Frost, I advise checking them out.

I always really liked the Without A Net version, 3/28/90. But any of the pedal steel ones are nice. :)

This is a Bob song and Bob sings it like he fuckin means it... one of my favorites is of of the new Beyond Desrciption box set. It is a studio outake of the song previously unreleased and is much more of a pre-studio solo jam with Bob than any version I have every heard. The verses arent complete and the guitar part isnt quite worked out, but the song is very cool

The best LLR was performed in Roanoke, VA 7-7-87. Bobby's passion and intensity are remarkable from start to finish and Jerry is right there with him......

Yes, there was magic in the air inside that small arena in Roanoke. The Cumberland was truly inspired that night. The second night, people starting playing leap frog in the hallways and the festive mood was memorable. The best shows from that summer tour.

Columbia, South Carolina
10.31.1985 (Halloween!)
Set One

Dan Healy adds reverb to Bobby's vocals near the end during the greatest 'height' of the song & everyone in the band is tight!
PLEASE check it out!!!

This is also one of my favs. I think the best verion i have heard was @ Rutgers University 5/15/81. They had roof where you could see through and it was thunder storm was brewing outside outside and you could see the lightning and during the end of the song " Looks like rain feels like rain here comes the rain" the electricity went out just for a sec followed by a load thundercrack. The band started playing again with some extra energy and the place went wild.

My favorite is 4-2-90 at the Omni. Bobby foams at the mouth, just goes nuts and they add some thunder sound effects too. The whole show is incredible, btw.

A couple more:
6-21-84 - Maple, ONT
10-30-90 - Wembley, UK, replete with "thunder" sounds ;)
11-5-77 - Rochester, NY (now on DP 34). Nice Bobby/Donna duet
7-18-90 - Deer Creek, IN

Try some of the 79-80 versions: a little more subdued than the epic-ending versions of the mid-late 80s, Brent lays down some sweet organ e.g. 11-10-79, 11-29-79, 5-11-80

And for another change of pace, with Bobby on acoustic, 7-20-94 (Deer Creek)

Enjoy!
